When passing by this tree, I almost missed the 1992 dedication made by Ray Hnatyshyn Governor General of Canada. That same year, he established the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement, which comes with a cool $25,000 award and a medallion from the Royal Canadian Mint, the Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Arts, and the Governor General's Flight For Freedom Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literacy. This beautiful raindrop filled tree sits in view of the War Memorial in White Rock. None of the other trees nearby hold the raindrops as this tree does. I’m not sure if there’s something special about the bark on the tree, but it is a spectacular phenomenon.
