2. Negative Space

Have you ever looked at a sunset through leafless trees in the winter? Or a spectacular sunny winter day?  Although the beauty of negative space is always there, usually it’s hidden from our sight, spring thru fall.  At first I was taking this photo because I thought of Emily Carr’s work and could imagine her getting up close to the tree, head arched back, for her “en plein air” sketches.  Her work was mostly of tall cedars, not deciduous trees such as this one in the photo. But after I had taken the photo, the negative space popped out at me and decided this is the focus of the photo.
